The Lucky Penny Dog Treat Co. operates as a home-based business in Labrador City, NL. It was created as a labour of love for our first golden retriever, Penny, who has since crossed the rainbow bridge at the ripe old age of 14 years, 3 months. When Penny was 7 years old, she started to get a few lumps and bumps on her skin. When we visited the vet for an unrelated issue, the vet asked us if she was eating a lot of beggin strips or milk bones, and commented that the artificial red colour in commercial dog treats can sometimes affect the skin. We started working on homemade treats and Penny was our faithful and eager taste-tester. As a fairly picky dog, especially of fruits and vegetables, if it got her kiss of approval, it went on our menu! Those spots quickly disappeared and Penny went on to be a happy, healthy and very old golden retriever. Our two other girls, Ruby and Lucky continue to be our faithful companions, and everything we make has their health and well-being in mind.
